Which industries use this electrical cable?

This type of cable is found in many industries. Building and construction, rail and transport infrastructure. It is also used in automation and process control.

It is a popular choice for use on assembly and production lines, conveyors as well as in machine tool manufacture and also in computer units.

This unscreened electrical cable works well as interconnecting cable for measuring, controlling or regulation in signal and control equipment.

Its flexible layers make this cable ideal for linking fixed and mobile equipment – as well as projects involving light mechanical stress and fixed installations.

With the right protection (such as keeping it out of direct sunlight), YY Cable 2 Core is useful in outdoor projects, although it is mostly found in either dry or moist indoor environments.

What is YY Cable 2 Core?

It is a flexible multi-core cable with class 5 stranded copper conductors, PVC insulation and a grey PVC sheath that is manufactured generally to BS6500 and VDE0250 standards.

There is a Low Smoke Zero Halogen – or LS0H – version of this versatile cable. The LS0H version has a similar construction – it simply uses XLPE insulation and a grey LS0H sheath in place of PVC layers.

When would I need to use LS0H YY Cable?

If the installation is in a public building, such as a school, office or hospital, you should use LS0H YY Cable 2 Core. When exposed to fire, the cable’s LS0H sheath emits very low levels of smoke and non-toxic levels of halogen gas (typically under 0.5% HCl emission). People also refer to LS0H as LSHF (Low Smoke Halogen Free), 0HLS (Zero Halogen Low Smoke), LSZH (Low Smoke Zero Halogen) or HFFR (Halogen Free Flame Retardant).
