General Information – Network Cable

Quickbit Ltd supplies a broad range of Network cables. Quickbit’s Network cables can support data transmission speeds of up to 1GB per second. Our range of high performance Network cable includes Category 5E, which supports frequencies up to 100MHz and Category 6 cables, which can support frequencies as high as 250MHz.

CAT5 E Network cable

A multipair (usually 4 pair) high performance Network cable that consists of twisted pair conductors, used mainly for data transmission. Category 5E Network cable is recommended for all new and existing installations, supports a frequency range of up to 100MHz and is designed for transmission speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second (Gigabit Ethernet).

CAT 6 Network cable

Category 6 Network cable, commonly referred to as Cat 6 Network cable, is a standardized Network cable for Gigabit Ethernet and other network physical layers that is backward compatible with the Category 5/5e and Category 3 cable standards. Compared with Cat 5 Network cable and Cat 5e Network cable, Cat 6 Network cable features more stringent specifications for crosstalk and system noise. The Network cable standard provides performance of up to 250 MHz and is suitable for 10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX (Fast Ethernet), 1000BASE-T/1000BASE-TX (Gigabit Ethernet) and 10GBASE-T (10-Gigabit Ethernet).

Whereas Category 6 Network cable has a reduced maximum length when used for 10GBASE-T; Category 6a Network cable, or Augmented Category 6, is characterized to 500 MHz and has improved alien crosstalk characteristics, allowing 10GBASE-T to be run for the same distance as previous protocols.

The heavier wire in some Cat 6 Network cables makes them too thick to attach to standard 8P8C connectors without a special modular piece, resulting in a technically out-of-compliance assembly. Because the conductor sizes are generally the same, Cat 6 Network cable jacks may also be used with Cat 5e Network cable.

Category 6 Network cable can be identified by the printing on the side of the cable sheath.

Cat 6 patch cables are normally terminated in 8P8C modular connectors. If Cat 6 rated patch cables, jacks and connectors are not used with Cat 6 wiring, overall performance is degraded to that of the cable or connector.

Connectors use either T568A or T568B pin assignments; although performance is comparable provided both ends of a cable are the same, T568B is a deprecated standard in the US and no longer supported by TIA

Armoured Network cable

A standard cat5e UTP network cable on the inner, the added advantage of this Network cable is it has a Steel Wire Armour (SWA) and a superior external grade thick PE jacket which makes it suitable for all

external applications as well as being tough enough to pull through ducts, directly burying in the ground or any vandal plagued installation, it also protects against moisture and is UV stable.

Our Cat5e armoured network cable is kept in very high stock levels in 2KM Network cable drums.

Armoured Network cable is used in many aplications of work such as Underground burial work, Oil Rigs, Outdoor IP Cameras, Ship Builders, Drilling Companies, Engineers, Modus, FPSO’s, Ship Owners also AEM Companies.
