Difference Between Fire Rated and Non-Fire Rated Downlights – Recessed downlights are available in a variety of types and sizes. Recessed Downlights are either standard or Fire Rated. In the event of a fire, regular downlights don’t offer any protection against an open flame.
Fire Rated Downlights have a enclosed back on them and have an intumescent seal around the edge of the bezel. This helps to protect the fitting against fire and helps to stop the spread of fire between floors in a building as the seal expands when exposed to heat, blocking the hole.
Below are a list of features for both Fire Rated and non-Fire Rated Downlights;
Fire Rated Downlights
- Help to slow the spread of fire between floors
- Reduced noise pollution between floors
- Downlight remains lit in the event of a fire
- Tested at 30, 60 and 90 minutes
Non-Fire Rated Downlights
- Cost-effective
- Available in different types and styles
- Variety of colours and finishes
