General Information – Armoured Cable 4 Core – A type of electrical cable that’s identified by its steel wire armour that’s there to mechanically protect the insulating layers beneath. This means that the cable is suitable for laying underground and for outdoor usage, such as attaching to walls and buildings using Armoured Cable Cleats.
This cable, as indicated by the name, contains 4 Cores (Brown, Black, Grey & Blue).
A use-case scenario would be using 35mm 4 core armoured cable for high powered three phase machinery in a warehouse or factory. This cable is perfect for this purpose as it’s protected against mechanical damage as well as chemicals and UV rays.
Not only does the steel wire armour provide mechanical protection, but it also enables the cable to have higher pulling loads, and also provides an earth to protect the surrounding devices and grounds.
As with Armoured Cable 2 Core & Armoured Cable 3 Core, Armoured Cable 4 Core is also made to the British Standard of BS5467, meaning it is suitable for all powered networks.
